A Moment in Life at a Biarritz Nude Beach

A Moment in Life at a Biarritz Nude Beach.  French Nude Beaches are real.

The French Biarritz Nude Beaches sneak up on you.  I didn't mean to be creepy, but I was walking around with my huge Canon 40D and telephoto lens taking pictures at the beach and exploring during my last day in Biarritz when, all of a sudden, people were naked.

SO, I'm posting this blog with the understanding that most of my readers will now think less of men.  But hey, I can't argue with the overwhelming amount of traffic from the google search 'nude beach'.

I started out by ignoring the topless old women (and men... wow, were there a lot of naked men).  Eventually, however, I got tired of snapping photos of the ocean... photos of the rocks... photos of the waves... of the water... there were nudes all around me.

Tobias from Arrested Development would have had a heart attack.

I sat down in the sand to take a breather and my camera wandered towards a group of nudies.  I may have accidentally pulled the trigger, snapped the shutter, and captured a few on camera.  DON'T FREAK OUT; no adult content here, I both blurred and 'black lined' the lady bits.  But, this gives you an idea of what was out there.  Old (though relatively fit) nude women in the foreground and younger (less fit and completely nude) women in the background.

I know what you're thinking: it's too bad I didn't take any of the naked men.

Biarritz Nude Beach

Biarritz Nude Beaches.  I had never been to a nude beach, and I stumbled upon this one by accident.  I had my camera out, ready to take pictures of beautiful oceanscapes when suddenly most everyone was naked.  Granted, I put my camera away soon after I happened upon this strange place but I got this nice shot of the ocean.

By the way, most of the people on this particular nude beach were old men.  Enjoy the photo...

Finding Hidden Treasures in Familiar Shadows

Life can sometimes seem drab and boring, especially if you're stuck in the same routine.  I wanted to show a slice of my life, my routine, and to explore what the fantastic treasures are hidden in my familiar shadows by documenting my typical surf trip to El Porto.

I generally run out of class at 3PM every day, strap on my backpack halfway out the door, and slam on the gas right when I get in my car.  It's surf time, baby.  On the way from LMU, of course, you pass the seemingly inescapable stream of planes.  It just so happens that the road to El Porto runs a few steps from the west-most runway at LAX.

Aptly named plane, heading for the horizon.  The beginning of a once impossible journey.

Though perhaps a bit more mundane than that of the plane's, as we continue on our journey we can appreciate the little things: Money Suckers.  I have my parking secrets to avoid these, but those are somewhat privileged.

The unfortunate reality is that we live in LA, and even at one of the most beautiful places in the city, people litter.  My philosophy: make the most of what you've got.

Some of us use mother nature to our advantage, and reap the rewards that she offers.  In this boy's case: fish.  There's something strangely refreshing about seeing how we used to sustain ourselves, and how this practice is still used in our lives.  Who said us Americans are lazy?

Though some come to the beach seeking to take, others come in search of harmony.

The Search for Harmony

The most spiritual that I get is in the water.  I get a profound sense of 'oneness' with the ocean and with nature when I'm surfing, and nothing quite compares.  It must be something about using and being completely reliant upon a natural medium in harmony with your own body.  Not only are waves used for  your initial propulsion, but your entire ride is completely determined by the decisions the ocean makes.
