Biaritz Surf Art Show

When I was staying in Biarritz, I was delighted to find out that two of the people who were staying at the Surf Hostel Biarritz were displaying their work at a surf art show.  Who would have thought that these existed?  After a session at Cote de Basque, a few of the Hostel guests and I walked to the show.  I got a few snaps of art, before I was told that photos were 'interdit' (forbidden).  Everything was beautiful...

Notre Dame Fire Dancers

On my trip to Paris, the Fire Dancers at Notre Dame may have been one of the most surreal moments.  Granted, Zach Weston and I finished off two whole bottles of French red wine, 5 Euro each.

War, Weapons, and Armor - Armor Les Invalides

War, Weapons, and Armor - Armor Les Invalides.  One of the coolest exhibits I've ever seen was a special exhibit at Les Invalides in Paris.  These pieces were from the Medieval times and earlier.  Notice the progression of shield design.  Which do you think came first?

A Moment In The Life of the Jardin de Rodin's Odd Statues

A Moment In The Life of the Jardin de Rodin's Odd Statues.

There's a lot to say about Le Jardin de Rodin, and what I'm about to say is probably none of those things.  I visited the famous garden, rich with history and talent, at the very end of my stay in Paris.  A few days prior, I had spent hours picking through the Louvre's historical archives, finding out everything I could about each and every piece of art that I looked at.

My brain hurt.

So, when I came to the Rodin Gardens, I walked around shooting all the interesting works of art when I noticed a theme: there are a ton of odd statues of oddly positioned men in the gardens.  Rodin must have had a thing for humans, bent into strange shapes.  The thinker statue is an icon: almost everyone knows it and it's beautiful.  But when you think about it, a naked man hunched forward with his elbow on his knees isn't the first thing one would expect a sculptor to create.   Of course, the garden topiaries and flowers are art in and of themselves, so I took some shots of the floral beauty of the place.

Enjoy the odds statues interspersed in beautiful gardens...

Le Jardin de Rodin

Le Jardin de Rodin is one of the hot spots for art in Paris, and is the largest outdoor display of famous works of art that I had ever seen. I wonder how they keep the art so well maintained in an outdoors environment; maybe Rodin is turning over in his grave? It started raining halfway through my visit- I hope the thinker doesn't rust from contemplation!

Here are some photos...

Graffiti in Paris

Graffiti in Paris.  It's all around, but this was one of the coolest examples of graffiti-style art on this building...

Lonely Paddleboarder Out At Sea

A lonely paddleboader out at sea in Biarritz, France.  This was a cool shot that I managed to snap late in the evening.  A standup paddleboarder coming in from a long paddle...

Biarritz Nude Beach

Biarritz Nude Beaches.  I had never been to a nude beach, and I stumbled upon this one by accident.  I had my camera out, ready to take pictures of beautiful oceanscapes when suddenly most everyone was naked.  Granted, I put my camera away soon after I happened upon this strange place but I got this nice shot of the ocean.

By the way, most of the people on this particular nude beach were old men.  Enjoy the photo...

Biarritz SNCF Train Station

The Biarritz Train Station, or the SNCF station was beautiful.  I was headed back to Paris for my flight out of Charles de Gaulle airport, and I arrived at the train station an hour early.  Luckily, it was sunset and the place was absolutely gorgeous.  It took me a while to find where my train was actually coming in at this small train station, but I found my spot and enjoyed the scenery...
